The ASPCA is gearing up for the start of the 2013 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge, where a total of $600,000 in prize grants are up for grabs to help shelters save more homeless cats and dogs.

The ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge is a groundbreaking contest that challenges animal shelters across the country to come up with innovative ways to engage their communities and get more homeless cats and dogs into loving homes.

The 49 contestants will work to save more animals – during the months of June, July and August 2013 – than they did over the same three-month period in 2012. Last year’s competing shelters saved more than 56,000 cats and dogs during the contest, an increase of 14,376 over the same period in 2011. For a full list of participating shelters, visit challenge.aspcapro.org.

Since Dakota and I live in Michigan, we are going to be pulling for the  Friends for the Dearborn Animal Shelter  and will help promote them when we can to help them increase their adoption numbers!

The ASPCA and Rachael Ray will award a $100,000 grand prize to the shelter contestant that achieves the greatest increase in lives saved during this three-month period. The contestant that does the best job of engaging its community members in helping to save more animals will win $25,000. Those organizations that do the best in their divisions will be eligible for between $10,000 and $25,000 in additional grants. In total, $600,000 in grant funding will be awarded for increases in animal lives saved, as well as a photo contest and general participation.

All her life, Rachael Ray has been an advocate for animals and a supporter of animal welfare groups. Her love for animals and for her pit bull, Isaboo, inspired her to create her pet food (which you read about A LOT on Dakota’s blog) called Nutrish® to raise money for animals in need.  Ray donates 100 percent of her proceeds from the sale of Nutrish® to organizations like the ASPCA so they can implement programs like the $100K Challenge and support shelters and animal organizations around the country.

So what are you waiting for? Find a participating shelter in your area that you can support by visiting:  challenge.aspcapro.org

Follow all the #100KChallenge action this weekend on Twitter, and best of luck to all the shelters as they embark on this exciting Challenge to save more lives!

Dakota and I wish them all the best of luck!

In full disclosure: Dakota and I were not compensated for this post. We were contacted by the ASPCA and were asked if we would share this info and we are more than happy to do so!

Sisterhood of the World Blogger’s Award

Mom is the proud recipient of the:

that she received from the wonderful blog:

Click on the photo to visit the blog!

From Long Life Cats & Dogs, “Long Life Cats and Dogs has been started, in order to introduce people to the lives of the people and animals in these shelters.  It is a regular news feed and, hopefully, a future means of assisting with the generation of funding and food for the Pro-Life, No-Kill Animal Welfare Shelters in and around Gauteng (South Africa).  These shelters provide permanent homes, love, food and medical attention for rescued animals for whom they are unable to find “forever” homes.”

Here are the rules when accepting this award:

  • Include the award’s logo in a post or on your blog.—check!
  • Share the love and link the person who nominated you—check!
  • Tell 7 facts about yourself.
  • Nominate 7 other fabulous bloggers.
  • Link your nominees to this post and comment on their blogs, letting them know they have been nominated.

Since this is a “girly” award and my Mom is a “girly” I decided to tell you seven things about her!

1) Mom’s  Grandfather was from Johannesburg, S.Africa. When I met “Long Life Cats & Dogs”, finding out they are from S.Africa was a special treat!

2) Places Mom has lived: New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and now Michigan!

3)  Mom’s father, (Ray Osrin)  was an  Editorial Cartoonist at Ohio’s largest newspaper,  The Plain Dealer in Cleveland, Ohio who enjoyed world-wide notoriety (BEFORE the days of the Internet and blogs)  and was featured in TIME and Newsweek (to name a few)

4)  Mom is a “middle child” and oh yeah she suffers from “middle child syndrome”

5) Mom was a lifeguard and taught swimming, she was also on a summer swim team where she swam the 50-meter freestyle and various relays (Mom wasn’t quite as “fluffy” back in the day as she is now BOL).

6)  Speaking of  “fluffy” Mom collects cook books and loves to watch Rachael Ray, Bitchin Kitchen, Master Chef, Hell’s Kitchen, tons of shows on the Food Network and The Cooking Channel. Funny thing is, with the TONS of cook books that Mom has, where does she go to search for recipes? The Internet. Yep….she has brains…NOT!!

7)  When Mom was little and drew pictures in school, she had a unique way of “signing” her name on the back of the pictures. She would draw a TV and put HER NAME inside of the screen. Delusions of grandeur? Yep…I would say so. BOL!

We are supposed to pass this award on to 7 other fabulous bloggers. You know the drill. Mom is a rebel (and I can be too). We love ALL of you and want you to accept this award as YOURS!! We value, love and enjoy each and every one of you!!

What we DO have to say is:

Mischief Monday-Flat as a Pancake!

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great weekend!

My brother Cody and I have had discussions about being left when Mom goes to the BlogPaws 2012 conference. We didn’t like that kitties and doggies from all over the country (including my buddy Snoopy!!!) get to go to this spectacular conference and we can’t go!

What in the name of a bag o’ bones is wrong with THAT picture?

Cody and I  are the ones that work  til the wee (and I don’t mean peeing!) hours of the morning on our blogs!  All Mom does is type the info that we give her, she makes that appear as if it’s a big deal cause she likes to moan and groan about  all that she does,  but Cody and I know differently!

We didn’t earn the right to go on this trip?

Without Cody and I Mom would have  no blogs! If Mom had no blogs, she wouldn’t be going on a  trip to  BlogPaws which is only the best blogging conference on the Planet!

Somebody needs to be barked at… big time!

Cody and I  decided to take matters into our own paws and take a look at what we did!

We had ourselves turned into  PANCAKE PETS!!

Also known as Flat Pets!

Don’t we look realistic?

We’re pretty smart huh?

Now we can go to BlogPaws with Mom

and REALLY stir up some mischief!!!!

Ohhhh…we’re gonna have FUN!!!

Do YOU wanna stir up some mischief?

Ohhhh I know you wanna!

Visit Pancake Pets right here and you can go anywhere that your pawrents go!

Now if you will excuse me, I have to go and pack! I have a lot of toys, treats and Nutrish

to fit into my bag!

I  have eaten Nutrish for all of my five years,  and my Mom won’t let me go to BlogPaws? When there is Nutrish around, this Sheltie will NOT be denied!

This bag is wrinkled because I EAT this food and have been for the past FIVE years!

(By the way, Nutrish  is  a Silver Sponsor at BlogPaws…click on  Sponsors  to see the entire list of TONS of BlogPaws Sponsors! )

 Let the mischief begin!!

Watch out Salt Lake City, here we come!!!

Sure Fit Pet Throws and Covers Are a Sure Thing!

Keeping up with shedding in my house is a never-ending battle! You see,  being a Sheltie I am blessed with luxurious long fur that appears everywhere!  Dad has the thankless job of going around the living room with a hand-held hair remover meticulously performing the task of “de-furring” our olive-green microfiber couch and chaise.  I know he has better things to do!

Mom reads countless catalogs, magazines and watches A LOT of TV! She kept seeing a product turn up that was not only incredibly attractive, it was functional, appeared to be well-made and seemed to be the perfect solution to the never-ending battle of the fur! The product that she saw was a Pet Throw and Cover made by Sure Fit! You have no idea how many dog-eared pages of catalogs that Mom had folded to refer back to. She HAD to have this cover!

One day Mom was watching one of her favorite daytime TV Shows, Rachael Ray. The segment that caught her eye was “Time-Warp Room Makeovers” In this segment they were talking about Slip Covers by Sure Fit .  Mom’s ears perked up like mine when she heard the name Sure Fit again! That was IT! They were on Rachael Ray? That’s all Mom needed to hear! She didn’t need a Slip Cover but her mind was made up! She HAD to have a  Pet Throw and Cover!

As luck would have it Mom was thrilled to be given the opportunity of receiving/reviewing a Pet Throw by Sure Fit.

“Sure Fit’s pet throws and covers are an easy and budget-friendly way to protect furniture from dogs, cats, pet fur, and stains. Our pet-protecting throws are great for couches, chairs, car seats – any furniture.

Sure Fit’s one piece pet covers quickly and easily: simply drape over your furniture and protect the seat, back and arms from pet wear and tear and are Machine washable.”

The cover that Mom chose  to review was the Sure Fit-Deluxe Comfort Cover

This is the exact cover that Mom chose. The color is "Sable" Just like ME!

From the Sure Fit website: “These Deluxe Comfort Covers are the perfect way to protect furniture from pet wear and tear and are odor resistant with “Sanitized” protective finish. Our Deluxe Comfort covers feature a velvet face, 4″ box quilting, 4.0 oz. lofty poly fiberfill, and microfiber fabric backing to help prevent slippage. Imported. Fiber content: 100% polyester quilted. Machine wash separately in cold water, gentle cycle, do not use bleach. Tumble dry low, do not iron.”

Here is how it looks in our room!

As you can see, due to high pillows that came with our couch the sides of the Deluxe Comfort Cover aren’t quite long enough (this is an unusually long couch). No worries! Mom tucked them under the seat cushions and they look beautiful!!!

Isn’t that color just perfect for our room?

You have no idea how SOFT  this cover is! Mom was smitten the second she took it out of the box! It is comfy, cozy, stylish and inviting. Mom is really into having a warm and welcoming room and this cover helps to create the essence that Mom is looking for!

Isn’t it just fabulous?

The most important part? I look INCREDIBLY HANDSOME posing by our new Deluxe Comfort Cover!! It is even color coordinated with ME!!!

Mom couldn’t be happier with her Sure Fit Deluxe Comfort Cover! It met and SURPASSED all of her expectations. There are a variety of covers on the Sure Fit website and you can check them out here

You can also find Sure Fit on Facebook by clicking here

and of course Twitter by clicking here!

Sure Fit  even has a blog on Blogger! Check it out here!

Mom and I would like to say  Thank you  to Sure Fit  for allowing us to review your product!

It is important to know that we received no compensation for this review. We received a Deluxe Comfort Cover to test/review and we couldn’t be  happier to have done so! All opinions are mine and Mom’s.  In our house “Comfort Is King” and Sure Fit is a “Sure Fit!!”

Rachael Ray’s “Just 6” and “Nutrish”, Are Just “Delish!!”

My friends, you have no idea how excited I am to have been given the opportunity to tell you about the most delicious and good for you dog food that I have ever tasted!

The food that I am talking about is Rachael Ray’s newest dog food, Just 6 AND her original dog food, Nutrish.

Let me give you a little background info. My Mom is a Rachael Ray freak.  She adores her. She has nearly all  her cookbooks, subscribes to her magazine and watches her show every day that she is able.

She loves Rachael’s down-to-earth heart and effervescent personality. She feels that Rachael is someone she can relate to because Mom considers herself to be a “home cook” and not a “cheffie” and that is how Rachael describes herself.

Rachael Ray is a huge animal lover. Specifically she loves dogs. Mom knew that Rachael cooked for her first dog and now her current doggy, and that all the meals she made for them were created out of  a passion for creating good food that is “good for you”  and a deep love of her doggy babies.

That is why when Nutrish first appeared  on the market, Mom was ecstatic. When Mom first purchased Nutrish she took the bag to the vet to have him check the ingredients. He gave it his approval and Mom never looked back. She has served me Nutrish ever since! I am one lucky doggie because I LOVE IT!

The bag is wrinkled because I  actually EAT this food!

I didn’t eat it just to do a product review

I am 4 years old and I have

been eating Nutrish for all of those tasty years!

I won’t ever do a review about another dog food

on my blog because I am a

Rachael Ray Nutrish & Just 6 dog

all the way!

Why Nutrish?

Here is what Rachael Ray says about it:

Nutrish has “Real meat — like chicken
or beef — as the first ingredient.  There are no fillers.  No junk.  Just lots of good,
wholesome stuff. How cool is that? And you know me.  I’m all about giving back,
so all of my proceeds from Rachael Ray Nutrish go to charities that take care
of animals who have no one else to look out for them.”

Now there is a new addition to Rachael’s dog food family and I am thrilled to have tasted that too!!  The “new kid on the block” is Just 6!

Here is the great gift package that I was one lucky dog to receive! Look at how beautifully wrapped it was! It even came with a super cute doggie bowl!

I was so excited I couldn’t wait to get my paws on it!

Why is it called Just 6? I am glad you asked that! Here is the reason:

“Rachael Ray Nutrish Just 6 doesn’t contain any corn, wheat or soy. Lamb meal is the number one ingredient, followed by five other wholesome ingredients. And Nutrish Just 6 has all the added vitamins your dog needs to keep him healthy and happy.”

  • Just six natural ingredients plus vitamins and minerals.
  • No corn. No wheat. No soy.
  • No by-product meal or fillers. No artificial flavors or artificial preservatives.
  • 100% complete & balanced nutrition for adult dogs.

Mom likes all of that healthy info but I LOVE how both Just 6 AND Nutrish TASTE! Let Mom worry about the good for you stuff,  just give me the food!

Even my brother,  Cody wanted to get in on the deliciousness!!

He knocked over the bowl and bag trying to rip it open!

Even after Mom straightened it, Cody still wasn’t giving up!

Don’t worry

It looks like Cody is eating Just 6

But he really isn’t!

Hey Rachael! How about making a cat food for  kitties too!!?? I bet they would love it as much as all of us doggies love Nutrish and Just 6!

Thanks for taking such good care of us Rachael. We love that you think about all the doggies in the world the way that you do!

Gotta go, Mom said she is going to the store this weekend and see if Just 6 is available in our area!

As Rachael Ray says every day when she ends her show:

“I’ll see ya, when I see ya!!”

Barks and licks and love, Dakota

My Mom and I were not compensated in any way for this review.  Mom buys and I happily eat Nutrish. All opinions are my own! Wait a minute!  I WAS compensated!! But not with money! I was compensated by being able to taste test Just 6! Feed me! That’s all the compensation that I need!  Dakota
