Let me begin by saying I am not a Shelter Dog. Nope, I’m not. In my case fate just didn’t work that way.
Before I came to live with my Mom and Dad they DID search shelters on PetFinder looking for a Sheltie to adopt. At that time there were none close enough to our home for my Mom and Dad to adopt. But things could have been different.
What if another family had brought me to live with them and it didn’t work out? There are a number of reasons why maybe it wouldn’t. Maybe I wouldn’t be a good fit for their family? Maybe they would fall on hard economic times and wouldn’t be able to care for me any longer and be forced to bring me to a shelter? These things happen every day.
Shelter dogs aren’t just mutts. There are many pure breed dogs there too who for a variety of reasons have now become Shelter dogs. Whatever type of dog you are looking for I bet you can find at your local shelter.
Times are tough in our country which has caused shelters to have a glut of both dogs and cats, (for the record, my brother Cody WAS a shelter cat!)
When possible always try to ADOPT FIRST!
