Candle Give-away from Terri’s Candles!

Hi everyone and Happy Monday!

I am excited to tell you about a give-away today that is super special.

Back in May I entered a give-away that was being held in honor of one of my favorite puppies:

The ADORABLE Bullet!

Bullet is the doggy of C.Richman from the blog:

CRichman Freebies

In honor of Bullet’s birthday, she was giving away a candle from Terri’s Candles  that not only featured Bullet on the front, but the candle scent is called Precious Puppy in honor of Bullet!

And I won!!

Here is what I received:

bullet candles 3 two candles together

If you look closely you can see Bullet’s adorable face on the candle on the left, that was the candle I won for the give-away.  Terri was a sweet heart and gave me another candle for featuring her candles on Dakota’s blog. She also gave me the most incredible vanilla scented tarts that you burn in a tart warmer (but I didn’t take a photo of those!)

When it comes to candles I am obsessed. I can never have enough of them, and I am super critical when it comes to the brands/scents that I will buy for my home. Terri’s Candles completely surpassed my expectations, and in my opinion smell BETTER than many candles that you would buy in a brick and mortar store. I cannot begin to tell you how much in love I am with these candles!

From Terri’s website:

Hi my name is Terri and I started making soy candles as a hobby, but as each candle became better than the last one, I grew more & more passionate in the quest to create the perfect candle.  Over time, Terri became Terri’s Candles.

We truly believe that you will be pleasantly surprised with each candle or melt that you order.  We take great pride in producing maximum scented, clean burning candles.

We hand pour each candle at the time of order.  We use the finest quality 100% soy wax, along with 100% pure fragrance oil and all of our wicks are cotton….no lead.

Why Soy?……Buying & burning candles isn’t the most eco-egregious thing you can do out there.  They’re relaxing, they smell good & they make for interesting home decor.

But yes, those rumors you’ve heard about soy wax are indeed correct.  They are better than the standard wax varieties.

Other candle wax is made from the petroleum byproduct paraffin.  Burning a paraffin candle is like inviting a diesel truck into your home to let off some exhaust…the soot from both the diesel and the paraffin, contains a noxious mix of carcinogenic petro-carbon nastiness that can mess with your health & emit toxic chemicals like benzene & toluene.  And as you know, petroleum isn’t exactly renewable.  Soy is!  And if you or someone in your family suffers from either allergies or asthma, burning a paraffin candle can contribute to the onset of allergy attacks and headaches.

What I am also excited about is Terri is interested in using her candles for fundraising for animals.  If anyone knows of any local organizations that you would like to help out, you can contact Terri at sandprints239 at  The candles would be made in the Precious Puppy scent with labels on the jars.  You can contact Terri for more details.

In the meantime, Terri has most generously offered ONE OF MY READERS that resides in the U.S. the opportunity of winning the same candle that I received, shown below:

bullet candle 2

The scent is  PRECIOUS PUPPY which is:

A very special aroma of pink grapefruit, Valencia orange and key lime as top notes.  Pink jasmine blossoms, rose petals and a fruity fusion of ripe apricot for middle notes and then bing cherry and ripe plums, round out the fragrance as base notes.”

It is a $14.00 VALUE!

Visit Terri’s website and check out the various candle scents. Leave a comment telling me which scent interests you the most!

EXTRA ENTRY: Like Terri on Facebook and tell her that Dakota sent you! Come back and leave a comment telling me that you did this.

Good luck!

In full disclosure I was not compensated for this post. I received two candles and some tarts. One candle was won in a give-away, the other and the tarts were a thank you for featuring Terri’s Candles on Dakota’s blog. All opinions are my own.

Book Review & Give-Away “A Christmas Home” A Novel by Greg Kincaid

Todd McCray a 24-year-old with developmental disabilities,  works at a local animal shelter where he befriends Laura, a young volunteer who also has disabilities but hers are more physical than developmental. Todd and his ever-present, trusted Labrador retriever (appropriately named Christmas) trains Gracie ( who was abandoned  by her owners due to financial woes) to help Laura with the day-to-day tasks that are difficult for her.

The local government in Todd’s town is also experiencing financial woes and in early December delivers the sad news that the shelter will have to close.

What will happen to all the animals?

What will happen to Todd? Laura?

I love books where the main characters are faced with challenges and are able to prove how these challenges can be overcome. A Christmas Home by Greg Kincaid is one of these books.

You will fall in love with the child-like honesty of Todd McCray and his ability to stay positive, no matter what obstacles are placed in his path and his ability to know his true-calling in spite of his disabilities.

What I particularly loved is the variety of meanings that the title of this book has to the story.

Will Gracie the abandoned dog have a home for Christmas?

Will the shelter animals who are soon to be displaced find homes in time for Christmas?

Will Christmas the dog, well into his senior years be forced to move to a new home for Christmas?

Will Todd find a new “home” for Christmas doing work that he loves and a new residence?

You will have to read this charmer to find out!

It is the perfect book to warm your heart as well as your winter nights!

From Crown Publishing: In A Christmas Home, Greg Kincaid again treats us to a story rich in the courage of people who, in overcoming their own limitations, teach us a lesson in how to prevail, no matter the odds, no matter the trials.”-Steve Duno author of Last Dog on the Hill.

WIN IT! TWO READERS can win a copy of A Christmas Home by Greg Kincaid! HOW TO ENTER: leave a comment telling me you would like to win this book (U.S. only please) by MONDAY, DECEMBER 10th AT 5pm. Dakota’s Birthday Give-Away!!!

Mom was so wiped out from a cold that she got when she visited Florida that she hasn’t updated my blog since last Wednesday! I thought she would forget about my birthday but nope! She didn’t!

Today is my birthday and guess what?

Since I am now 5 years old I am a big boy  and it shouldn’t be all about ME getting presents, we should GIVE some back too!  So Mom and I decided to have a HUGE give-away for my readers!

There will be FIVE  WINNERS (one winner per prize).

Wait til you see what prizes we are giving away!

Mom and I sat down and figured out what some of my favorite things are,  kinda like Oprah but we don’t have any cars to give away, so we brainstormed and came up with what we think are some pretty fabulous prizes!

1) A $100 gift certificate to

From their website

“Celebrating its 25th anniversary, PetAg, Inc. is a leading pet product development and manufacturing company, delivering innovative health and wellness products to pet owners and veterinarians that enrich and prolong the lives of companion pets, animals, birds and reptiles.”

Back in October 2011 Mom had entered me in a contest  for  National Pet Obesity Awareness, and so many people liked my photo on Facebook that   I won!! I was also interviewed and if you missed that you can read the interview here

Mom and I decided that it would be a nice thing to give my gift certificate to one lucky person!

2)  FIVE BAGS OF SmartBones!

Yep! One of my most favorite things in this entire world are SmartBones! One person is going to win FIVE BAGS of SmartBones! You know that I feature SmartBones on my blog a lot and the give-aways are always super popular! Well, now you can enter again to try to win FIVE BAGS for yourself!

3) A $50 GIFT CERTIFICATE to FOR LOVE OF A DOG!! (it’s really a gift CODE but it will function like a gift certificate) At check out you will enter the code that you will be given and it will pay for $50 of your order.

Mom featured them on my blog a few weeks ago and this is one of her favorite websites for all things doggy (and cats too!) You can buy something super nice with a $50 gift certificate!

You can sure get some cool stuff with THAT!

5) Last but not least, since peanut butter is my favorite flavor in the world…one lucky person will win FIVE BAGS OF ORGANIC PEANUT BUTTER TREATS from Barker’s Dozen!!!

I LOVE PEANUT BUTTER and they make some really great treats!

Whew!!! This is a darned good give-away!!! After all a doggy only turns 5 ONCE, right?

TO ENTER: EASY PEASY! Just wish me a  Happy Birthday!

If you aren’t comfortable typing it out you can use the words “at” and “dot” instead of the symbols.

We apologize but due to some of these prizes being food related, this give-away is for the U.S. ONLY.

“LIKE” my Facebook Page and let me know here that you did! (If you comment directly on Facebook that will NOT count as an entry) Oh and if you “unlike” us after the give-away (as some of you did after the last SmartBone give-away) …we have special ways of hunting you down BOL!!!  Trust me you do NOT want me BARKING outside of your door!! BOL!

Now…I gotta go and blow out some candles and Mom said there is a SPECIAL TREAT for me for dinner tonight! HAMBURGERS!!!

Barks and licks and BIRTHDAY LOVE, Dakota

This was one FUN give-away and I want to thank everyone who entered!!!

I’m not going to keep you on the edge of your seat for long. We are going to go straight to the list of who won!

(Winners were chosen by

Some of you requested the same Cozie  so to be fair, I numbered the winners 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th number drawn. Tupper the Lamb was the most popular and two of the winners requested him. The person who won him had a number that was chosen before the 4th place winner so  Tupper went to the first person who wanted him whose number was drawn. (I hope that makes sense!)

Now…on to the WINNERS!

The  first number drawn

and the winner of

Floppy the Bunny is:

Be sure to check out Eva’s blog

The 2nd number drawn and the winner of

Tupper the Lamb is:

They  were  two  of MANY people who wanted Tupper,

so since they were the first number drawn

of those who wanted Tupper,

  they got first dibs!

The 3rd number drawn and the winner of

“King The Lion” is:

The 4th and last number chosen and the winner of

 Baily The Blue Dog is:

“My Little Man” A Guest Post By Colleen Richman

Almost three years ago, I rescued a little chihuahua who only weighed 2 pounds. He was in Alabama and only a few months old. His one testicle did not drop so aside from being fixed he also needed to have surgery to have his testicle removed and biopsied. Sadly, this handsome little guy was unable to find someone to open their hearts to love him enough to pay for his surgery. Until I heard about him of course!

How could anyone resist that face?!? At the time I was working in law enforcement and had the ability to work overtime often. I knew no matter how much it cost me, or how hard I had to work, I was going to have this little guy and he was going to be spoiled rotten! I paid to have him flown from Alabama to New Jersey, took him to the vet, and got him all the attention he needed! Here is a picture of him when he came home from his surgery:

It warms my heart to know how safe he felt cuddled in that little blankey. Although he had all the toys in the world, he wanted the care bear that I had gotten from a coworker as a joke between me and that officer. I knew then, that Bullet only wanted my love and anything that reminded him of me. From then on, we were inseparable, and still are to this day! What also warmed my heart is that several months before rescuing him, we had also rescued an abused cat from a shelter. The following picture shows my cat Trent watching over Bullet as he slept off his pain from surgery:

There are times that I still can’t believe how lucky I am to have him and how special he is. He brings joy to my life every day and there is nothing more important to me than keeping him safe and feeling loved.

He was even the ring bearer at my wedding:

He is my little man!!!

From Dakota and “Mom”:  Colleen Richman is a special lady. Mom and I met her through her blog: “Welcome To CRichman Freebies”. Colleen features many fun give-aways  interspersed  with adorable stories about her precious Chihuahua, Bullet.

One of the things that Mom and I LOVE about blogging is meeting  people with huge hearts like Colleen. We thank her for sharing her story about Bullet with us and hope that you will stop by her blog and give her a warm woofie  “hello!”
