What do gentlemen do?

Back on February 21st I were reading one of my favorite blogs: Something Wagging This Way Comes, and  the post that I was reading that day was:

11 Insanely Useful Weird Dog Commands

Pam had compiled a list of commands that she uses for her dog, Honey, that cover a lot more ground than your basic, “sit”, “stay” or “wait”.  If you haven’t read this fun and informative post, click on the above link!

At the end of the post, Pam asked: What are some of the strange cues you use to tell your dog what you need from her? (in our case it would be a “he”, but I digress…)

Here is the comment that I left on Pam’s blog post that day:

“What do gentlemen do?” I stumbled upon it a couple of weeks ago when Dakota was having a barking fit wanting a bone.

I never thought he would understand a complete sentence when I used it. In frustration I said “What do gentlemen do?” He promptly SAT. I have used it since to make sure it wasn’t a fluke and he sits EVERY time. My husband calls him a “gentleman” when he takes him to the bathroom but never uses it for sitting.
I must try to get it on video.

Then Jan Keefe  of Wag ‘N Woof Pets  (another favorite blog of mine) said on:

February 21, 2013 at 12:06 PM

I would love to see that, you will have to get it on video! :)

Guess what? I did JUST THAT! Yesterday I went and to Sprint to take advantage of the upgrade I had available to me to trade in  my old Android phone for  the new iPhone4 , and was playing with the video function. I decided to ask  Dakota the infamous question: “What do gentlemen do?”  See for yourself!

It is MUCH funnier when Dakota is in the middle of vocalizing about how much he wants his  Rachael Ray Nutrish® Soup Bones™.

Just to show you the “gentleman” routine is NOT a fluke, witness it again!

I’d say he deserves a BlogPaws Nose-to-Nose Award nomination, don’t you agree?  Now is  YOUR chance to nominate ALL of the pet blogs/bloggers that you love!

From BlogPawsThe “Nose-to-Nose” Awards is the only awards program in which pet bloggers and microbloggers are judged on their expertise, creativity, and performance in one or more of 12 categories by a panel of distinguished professionals. The BlogPaws Nose-to-Nose Awards are not a popularity contest!

Nominations open at 12:00 PM EST on Wednesday, February 27th, 2013 – and close at 3:00 PM EST on Friday, March 8th.

Yep, that’s right! You don’t have to experience angst wondering who you are going to nominate, you can nominate ALL of your favorites in as many categories as you would like!

As an example, Dakota  and I have already begun nominating blogs in the categories of:

Best Blog Design

Best Blog Writing

Best Humor Blog

Best Bark Blog

Best Meow Blog

Best Wiggle Blog (for animals other than cats or dogs)

Best New Blog

Best Cause Blog

Best Blog Video

Best Blog Photo

Best Facebook Design

Best Twitter Design

and you know what? There are a number of blogs that we feel are deserving in EACH category and we aren’t going to just nominate one per category, we are going to nominate ALL of our faves for EACH category! That way, EVERY FURRY will be considered! How cool is that?

One thing that we love about the Nose-to-Nose awards is that even if you are just nominated ONCE, you are in the running, AND, you CAN NOMINATE YOURSELF!

Every blog that is nominated will be reviewed by the judges panel, but just once.

Please, please nominate ALL of the blogs/bloggers that you love for whatever category!

To read more about the criteria that the judges will be taking into consideration for each category, click here

We are HONORED and FLATTERED that so many of you visit us on a regular basis, or even that you visit us at all! That being said, if there was a post that made you smile, a photo that you loved, a book review that inspired you to buy/read a book, a contest that you won, a product that you learned about here or anything else that you loved, that we work painstakingly and with all of our heart to share with you, we would be HONORED if you wish to nominate us for whatever category you see fit.  Well, except best meow blog since this isn’t a cat blog! BOL! Our chances of being a finalist or even of gasp, WINNING...are next to none, but it would mean the world to us if we were even to be considered.

Should you wish to nominate us, and we THANK YOU if you do, you can click on each category that we mentioned above and it will take you right to the nomination pages.

Here is our info that you will need:

Roxy Doggie Necklace

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Back in January our friends at one of our favorite blogs,  Roxy The Traveling Dog, had a give-away where you could win one of the beautiful, handmade, beaded “necklaces” that Roxy wears.

Mom entered the give-away, and was lucky enough to be one of  the two winners! Do you believe that Mom had the nerve to ask Roxy’s Mom if she could have her prize made  as a BRACELET  for  her? What nerve! Mom’s  reasoning was that my “mane’ is so long that if I wore a beautiful collar/necklace like that it would never be seen, and my kitty brother, Cody, who it WOULD fit, doesn’t wear collars.

Roxy’s Mom was kind enough to make Mom her own bracelet and Mom couldn’t have been more excited when it arrived!

Along with the bracelet that Mom adores, she  received  a lovely note from Roxy and Torrey’s Mom as well as some of their beautiful business cards. (Ignore the notepad with the coffee mug stain that Mom put the bracelet on, geeze!) Here is a better shot of how beautiful the bracelet is!

From their  website (and we apologize but WordPress wouldn’t let me remove the italics on the last two points)

All necklaces are 5/8″ wide, unless ordered larger, and any length you need. Cost is $2.00 per inch. Matching people bracelets are 7″ and $15.00, unless you request differently.
Available colors – White, black, red, yellow, green, pink, orange, coral, lilac, beige, crystal clear, dk.blue, light blue, turquoise.
Patterns– Horizontal stripes, checker board w/line, random dots, vertical stripes, checker board, zig zag, stars, Native American.

For information on how you can order one of your own, click here

Roxy and Torrey’s gifted Mom and Dad create the most incredible art that you can buy or share with others who might be interested in buying their incredible artwork. Take a look at their art here

Thank you Roxy and Torrey!
Mom LOVES her bracelet and will wear it with pride!

Since we reviewed our first “subscription gift box” a few weeks ago they have come out of the woodwork! It is appropriate that one of Dakota’s faves is  named the Spoiled Rotten Box , because that’s how he felt after receiving this wonderful box!

Each box is stuffed with almost $40 worth of products and when you subscribe to receive a monthly box you can purchase it for only $24.99 a month!

Can Dogs Send Their Humans to Obedience School?

Hi everyone! It’s Dakota and yep I am SUPER LATE posting today. It is  NOT my fault. It IS my Mom’s fault!

Mom was supposed to post a really cool give-away from

click on their photo to visit them!

click on their photo to visit them!

I received a box of really fun items from Five Wags and I was supposed to tell you about them today AND have a give-away. Well, my Mom didn’t have the best week and she misplaced the email telling her how many winners we are allowed to have, and she can’t do the blog post until she has that information.

She emailed Five Wags this morning to tell them how she  lost the email totally screwed up, and she is waiting to hear back from them. If they get back to her before the weekend is over Mom will go ahead and do the review/give-away. If they don’t get back to her til next week we will just post the give-away at another time.

I am super sorry…you just can’t get good help today that is for sure!

I’m surprised she didn’t say that the DOG ATE HER EMAIL!

Does anyone know of any obedience classes that I can send my Mom to?

She sure needs them!

I won a BarkBox and Cody won too!

Hi everyone! It’s Dakota! Back in October, I was reading one of my favorite blogs:

Photo Courtesy of Roo's Doins, click photo to visit his blog!

Photo Courtesy of Roo’s Doins, click photo to visit his blog!

Roo has a super special story about his life, which if you don’t know his story, you can read about it here

Now being the super generous dog that he is, Roo was having a give-away for a BarkBox and/or a MeowBox  as part of Roo’s Birthday/Gotcha celebration and I decided to enter!

What is a BarkBox?

From their website:

When you sign up for BarkBox, every month you will receive a box in the mail with four or more carefully selected products and presents for your dog – anything from bones and treats to shampoos, leashes and innovative new gadgets!

A portion of proceeds from each box will go to help doggies-in-need. To learn more about our causes, read about our giving program.

Here is a photo of Roo and HIS BarkBox

Then…when it was time to pick winners

of his contest,

look who Roo picked!

I was BEYOND excited that I won!

Look at all of my stuff!

Do you believe it? One of my favorite things in that box are the blueberry treats by Fruitables Pet Foods! They are the perfect size for all of my treat toys and they are super delicious! Not to mention the great treat toy by Bionic and of course a gift card from our pals at chewy.com !! Everything I love!!

Mom was  super impressed with the Bark Box and said if she ever starts making some money again that maybe she will look into this for me. If not for me, it would make a great gift for some other lucky doggies!

Now, if that wasn’t generous enough, Roo even got presents for my kitty brother Cody, so he wouldn’t feel left out! Look at all of this stuff that Cody got!

barkbox cody prize

There was a KONG kitty toy, a dangly, a KONG brush, a blanket and wait! Even THIS! A Cat Amazing treat maze for Cody!

You can enter to win one on his blog until

Both Cody and I want to thank Roo for his INCREDIBLE KINDNESS AND GENEROSITY! It would have been enough for just ME to win (of course!), but to include Cody as well, was one of the kindest things we have ever experienced.

We are deeply touched Roo,

we THANK YOU  from the top of our ears,

to the tip of our tails,

and to the “moon and back!!”

We love you Roo!

Seasons GREENIES® A Surprise for me AND for YOU! GREENIES® CANINE DENTAL CHEWS!!

Hi every doggy! (and kitties that may be in attendance!) it’s Dakota!

I just love this time of year! Everybody is happy, people are exchanging love, caring, presents, even licks! One of my favorite things is when I receive an unexpected gift! That is EXACTLY what happened last week!

I was just sitting around, minding my business, listening for sounds and watching out the window for any doggy that might be going potty in MY territory, when what did my alert Sheltie ears hear? A knock at the door!

After alerting my Mom and Dad by doing my best Sheltie barks and continuing on for 20 minutes AFTER the fact, my Mom showed me what had arrived.

greenies in box

What in the world?? Mom and I looked at each other in surprise. We weren’t expecting anything. I was overcome with excitement, I was spinning 100 times faster than my normal cyclone-speed Sheltie spins! ….Hurry Mom! Open it! What’s inside?

greenies letter

There was a lovely message wrapped in a festive Christmas-green bow. SOMEBODY LOVES ME!  I was jumping on Mom begging her to read faster and to begin opening the package already!

greenies holiday box opened

When Mom and I opened the package we couldn’t believe it! The wonderful people at  GREENIES® had sent me a beautifully decorated holiday box of:

Mom immediately picked up the phone and thanked our furiends at GREENIES®  and then she decided, that as a THANK YOU to  GREENIES®, she would have me blog about these wonderful treats. That made me think. I don’t like featuring things on my blog that YOU can’t win, so I dictated an email to my furiends at GREENIES®  and told them I was going to blog about their special surprise and asked if I could please have a give-away for YOU! Guess what! They said YES!
