Beneful® wants you to “Play. It’s good for you” Enter to win a Beneful® “Play Pack!”

HAVE YOU PLAYED TODAY?

Think about it, when was the last time you actually stopped to PLAY? I don’t mean playing a game on the computer, but the kind of carefree, kick-off-your- shoes- twirl- round-and-round- on- the- grass- til-you’re dizzy kind of play that you did as a child. The kind of play that brings on belly laughs that actually bring tears to your eyes.  The kind of play that makes you feel exhilarated and  free!

It was probably some time ago wasn’t it?

I know for me it was. There’s this thing called “life” that often gets in the way with responsibilities such as kids, paying bills, going to work and the constant onslaught of  depressing news.  I know I don’t often make the time to actively play, and I bet that you don’t either!

According to a recent survey on the state of play in the U.S., 82-percent of the total adults surveyed say they don’t believe Americans are experiencing enough play in their lives*.  Who better to inspire more play than our four-legged friends who bring smiles and spontaneity wherever they go?

To help Americans get more play in their day, Beneful® brand dog food is launching a digital video campaign that features some fun-loving dogs that spread random acts of play in the most unexpected places.

Two of my favorites are below:

This last video is my absolute FAVORITE!

The last video reminded me of when I attended the Meet Purina Pet Blogger Summit, and we had all convened in a meeting early in the morning. We were thrilled to be there and were delighted  to listen to an assortment   of speakers, but it wasn’t until 2 cats strolled into the conference room that the laughter, “ooohs and ahhhs”, and the giggles began! Purina “gets it”,  that is why they allow their employees to bring their pets to work!

Beneful® must know that if I am in need of play, Dakota must be too. Look at what they sent to us!

Isn’t this stuff just great? Dakota’s personal fave is the green tennis ball! He is all about the tennis balls!

It's not the same ball that he received but you get the idea!

To inspire more play between you and your four-legged best buddy, Beneful®  would like to send you a Beneful® Play Pack like the one I received above!  (U.S. only please)! To enter all you have to do is leave a comment telling me how you are going to put more “play in YOUR day!”

DEADLINE TO ENTER IS MONDAY, DECEMBER 24TH

WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 26TH.

WAIT! THERE’S MORE!!

You can also  PLAY when you swing by PetSmart-if you purchase a 31-lb bag of Beneful and a 10 oz. Beneful Prepared Meal, you’ll  get a free toy with your  purchase (there will be a special display of tennis balls right by the Beneful display). Just one more way  Beneful is encouraging PLAY!

We are also proud to tell you that  the dog-loving community of Lancaster, Pa., has plenty of reason to play, as local resident Angela Bauman and her German Shorthaired Pointer, Beau, have been named Grand Prize Winner of the 2012 Beneful® Dream Dog Park Contest.  Bauman wins $10,000 cash and a one-year supply of Beneful brand dog food.  In addition, her creative entry for her ultimate play destination will help serve as inspiration for a $500,000 renovation of a dog park in the Lancaster area!

That’s some exciting stuff!

Congratulations Angela and Beau!!

Now, what are you waiting for?

“Play. It’s good for you”

*About the Beneful “State of Play” Survey

The 2012 Beneful “State of Play” survey was fielded online by ORC International on April 16-22, 2012, among a sample of 2,024 American adults comprising 1,001 men and 1,023 women 18 years of age and older. The sample comprised 789 adults who own a dog.

In Full Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post. I am a member of the Purina Pet Blogger Panel and I was sent a Beneful® Play Pack for Dakota. I  was given information to share with my readers if I chose to. Purina did fully pay for all expenses involving my visit to Meet Purina, this past October.

Mischief Master Class: A Book written by Dogs (two Cats and a Turtle!)…assisted by Annette Vivian

Hi everyone it’s Dakota, it’s Monday and you know what THAT means! It’s Mischief Monday!!

I can’t think of a better day to feature the new book by my buddy Snoopy, (of the informative, fun and adorable blog, SNOOPY’S DOG BLOG,)   Mischief Master Class A Book written by Dogs (two Cats and a Turtle!)…assisted by Annette Vivian.

How did this book evolve?

For the rare few who DON’T know, my buddy Snoopy is the MASTER of Mischief! So much so that on his blog he has a regular Monday feature called the Monday Mischief Blog Hop which is sponsored by Snoopy, Alfie’s Blog, Luna Dogs Life and My Brown Newfies. This Blog Hop is so popular and has so many weekly submissions from various animals all over the world, that it only made sense that the concept would make a natural evolution, into a BOOK! Now, when you want to read about all the mischief that everyone has been up to, it’s right at the tip of your paws!

My buddy Snoopy is a 2-year-old Bearded Collie who considers himself to be the “Master of Mischief”  That title didn’t come easy.  In order to attain the title of “Master of Mischief” you must have enormous skill and creativity! Snoopy has made it his mission to help all animals get the title of “Master of Mischief” by compiling this pawsome book!

But what exactly IS “Mischief? I’m glad that you asked!  Here is the definition that I found online:” It is “Playful misbehavior or troublemaking”

Snoopy feels, and I agree, that with so much seriousness in the World and in our jobs (did you know that Snoopy is a registered therapy dog? That’s some SERIOUS stuff!) it is important to incorporate some play in your day and what better way to do that than through creating some Mischief!

How Does The Mischief Master Class Work?

From Snoopy: “you must keep in mind some basic principles/rules/codes. If you stick to these principles, my experience tells me you’ll be a Mischief Master in no time!”

This book will be your greatest “go-to” to hone your mischief-making skills! You will LOVE the fun examples/stories shared by animals from all over the world (and their 2-leggers). The colorful photographs will make you wag your tail with delight!

Some of my favorite “Principles” in Mischief Master Class are:

Look Cute-Freddie of the blog BASSET MOMMA  has that skill learned, paws down!

Forgiveness is Easier Than Permission-shown by the sock stealing antics of Alfie the Entlebucher Mountain Pup. Visit him at ALFIE’S BLOG.

My Handiwork

My Handiwork

Stand Tall, Be Firm-shown by none other than yours truly!! Yep! I’m in the book too! I tried so hard to protect my territory from the dogs across the hall that I tore up our door wall! Just for the record, I was so adept at this feat that the dogs have MOVED!

The Art Of Negotiation– remarkably displayed by our turtle friend Kroten, of the blog UNDERNEATH THE SHELL, who will eat anything and everything!

Don’t Underestimate The Little Guy, The Big Dog Isn’t Always The Top Dog-shown by Roxy and Torrey of the blog ROXY THE TRAVELING DOG, as well as  Snoopy himself with a hilarious intro to this chapter about Snoopy and his “sheep.”

Learn To Count– one of my faves, and highlights how my buddy Snoopy can count! Yep!  By learning to count he knows just how long he can stay on the forbidden bed before his Mom counts to THREE to get him off. He even includes a link to the video in his book (links to many other videos are in the book as well). Check out this one of Snoopy, you’ll see why it is a fave of mine!

The last principle we are going to share with you, (you will have to buy the book to see the rest), is showcased by Emma  of the blog MY GBGVLIFE and that is: Don’t Be Shy- Ask For What You Want where Emma was determined to have a special birthday pawty for her sister Katie and took matters into her own paws!

Check out some more mischief that is in this great and FUN book!

Once you finish reading Snoopy’s Mischief Master Class, you will have “learned that no matter who you are or what you are, Mischief is for ALL!”

You will even have your own “Mischief Master” Certificate in the book, like mine!

Yeah I forged Snoopy's "pawnigture", hey, I read the book and contributed Mischief! I earned it!

Yeah I forged Snoopy’s “pawnigture”, hey, I read the book and contributed Mischief! I earned it!

Now,  go tell the person in charge of the money in your house to hurry up and pawchase this fantastic book! Better yet, YOU create some mischief and grab their credit card and order it yourself! BOL!!

The “Ass” Award-Silly Saturday

OMD I am totally embarrassed!!! In case you haven’t picked up on it already,  my Mom is INSANE, COMPLETELY CERTIFIABLE. Frankly, she shouldn’t be walking the streets unattended. Now…she is using MY BLOG as a vehicle for her insanity! What am I to do?

A few days ago Mom was reading our friends, Mollie and Alfie’s blog and was told that she was given an award (the award I am talking about will be featured on another day). What catches Mom’s eye? A different award that really isn’t an award, it’s a JOKE. But don’t tell Mom that. Mom was eyeing it longingly and being the demented person that she is, felt that she MUST have it! So, she told Mollie and Alfie’s Mom, who of course said “take it because you ARE one!” She really didn’t say that but I can bet she was thinking it, how could she NOT think it when you see what Mom has posted below?

The award that Mom was  longing for wasn’t a Pettie, or a Nose-to-Nose award…nope, those are WAY too normal and prestigious for her. THIS IS THE AWARD that my mentally challenged Mom wanted:

Click on the image to visit Mollie and Alfie!!

If wanting that award wasn’t bad enough. Mom had a REASON for wanting it! Approximately 3 years ago Mom filmed this INCREDIBLY EMBARRASSING VIDEO! (Please ignore how our home looked at the time. We have redone the floors, painted and got a new TV and new furniture, so our old place looks REALLY BAD in this video!) But…our condo isn’t what is so embarrassing…watch and you will see…

See what I mean? Soooo in my opinion just because I like to sniff butt, that doesn’t make me an “ASS!” My Mom is the “ASS” for filming it and deriving such great enjoyment out of it!!!

I am tellin’ ya this woman is impossible to live with! My heart goes out to Dad…HE married her!

Hanging my head in embarrassment,

Barks and licks and love, Dakota

May Your New Year Be Sweet! L’Shana Tovah Happy Rosh Hashanah!

My New Toy!!

Mom sure made up for not allowing me to blog by presenting me with this wonderful toy made by

Nina Ottosson!

Mom has a friend named Baby Patches and Baby Patches has a wonderful web site called Nip And Bones, LLC.

Mom visited one day and found me the fantastic toy,

Dog Finder, by Nina Ottosson.

Here is how the toy is described on Baby Patches’ website:

“The idea behind the Dog Finder is the dog or cat is to look for treats by moving blocks in four different directions. The block can only be lifted at the end of each track. Under each block there is a depression where treats can be hidden… ”

  • Skill Level: Intermediate
  • Suits dogs and cats of all ages and sizes
  • A tricky and activating game for you and your dog or cat
  • Plastic, easy to clean
The Dog Finder also comes with a handy booklet “Fun Challenging Games & Puzzles” that you can play when using this toy. It also includes a Training Guide and a CD. Like the doggie on the cover says “not that I need it!”
Mom said she was surprised at just how fast I learned how to use this puzzle.
Why should she be surprised? I am a SHELTIE after all!
We are listed as number 6 in intelligence out of 100 doggies! I’m no slouch!
Mom timed me when I first used this puzzle and she said it took me less than 60 seconds to figure it out!
Mom didn’t even have to explain it to me. I saw where she put the  mouth watering  treats that Baby Patches’ Mommy sent to me as a surprise ,and it was off to the races!
Click on the photo to see all of the delicious treats!
Check out the delicious dog treats here
Mom said her favorite part of watching me play with the Dog Finder was when I would pick up the hidey bones that the treats go under,  carefully  bringing them over to my coffee table fort and depositing  them underneath.
The first time I played with the Dog Finder, I put at least half of those hidey bone covers in my fort! It made me feel secure to keep them there, safe from the meddling paws of my kitty brother, Cody.
Check out how smart I am, you can even hear my heavy breathing, I was so excited!
Be sure to watch til the end!
This is my favorite toy now and Mom said she wishes she had pawchased it long ago.  She was just too cheap at the time and didn’t.
She said that she loves it so much and loves the quality that she is going to buy me MORE Nina Ottosson toys  from Nip and Bones! YAY!! There are many wonderful toys made by  Nina Ottosson on the Nip and Bones website.
Mom said it is going to be super hard to decide which one to pawchase next.
I think she should leave that decision up to me!
I can easily go without blogging if it means I am going to get great toys like this!
The problem is, guess who else likes it?
Mom THOUGHT she had put it out-of-the-way when she laid the box on top of the dining room table.
As you can see, she thought WRONG

Look closely in the box and you will see what I mean

When I am done playing Mom has to hide the Dog Finder in the closet with the door shut.
I don’t want any kitty germs on it!
Barks and licks and love, Dakota
Mom and I weren’t compensated in any way for this review. Mom pawchased the above toy on her own. Baby Patches’ Mom only gave us the treats as a special surprise and we say THANK YOU!!!!

Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad! And…It’s “National Take Your Dog To Work Day!”

Today is my Mom and Dad’s 5th wedding anniversary! Yes, I know they are both older than dirt but you see they are such gems that their first marriages didn’t work out and this is the second marriage for both.

Look at this card that my Dad gave to my Mom….

This card was made by Avanti Cards, to read about them click  here

I think this is a great card but the Sheltie is wearing a DRESS! I am a boy dog and my Dad gives this to my Mom from ME??? This greatly affects my Sheltie sensibility!

Anyway, I hope Mom & Dad have a great anniversary, nobody else wants them so they had better make the best of what they have!!

Now, on a totally different paw,  today is also:

National Take Your Dog To Work Day!!

You can read about that by clicking on the above link…

I have a bone to pick about that too.

I would LOVE to go to work with my Mom and/or Dad but you see, they must have a JOB first!! A JOB!!

Dad retired last summer after 36 years of teaching in the Detroit Public Schools. Mom worked 20+ years in Advertising Sales but lost her latest job due to downsizing in 2007. Mom is now a freelance writer/blogger. Yeah, yeah she puts in TONS of hours doing this (as all of you bloggers completely understand), makes enough to keep me in kibble,  but she works from HOME!  How in the dog world can I go to work with her if I am already THERE 24/7?

Even more insulting, her  “office” is off-limits to me! She has the hallway baby gated!   See the photo below? This is the closest I get to her office:

That’s not even me!! It is merely a stuffed replica!! (And a poor representation at that!) I’m not allowed back there because that is where Mom keeps her partner in crime’s  Cody’s toys.

For all of you “lucky dogs” who get to go to a BONA FIDE WORKPLACE with your Mom and Dad and not some bogus representation of an “office” this video is for you!!!! It was done by Ginger of YouTube and Mom and I LOVE her videos!

Now THAT’S a workin’ Sheltie!

Barks and licks and love, Dakota
