Book Review And Give-Away! “Organizing the Care of My Dog”, Part of the “WiseUp!” Workbook Series by Morgan T. Orr and Penelope Orr Spry

Many of you will be attending BlogPaws 2012, and while some  of you may be lucky enough to be able to either bring your dog with you, or have a family member stay with them, others have to use the services of either an in-home dog sitter or a kennel.

If you are like me, when you leave notes for a pet sitter, they are typed or chicken-scratched on umpteen pieces of paper which are taped to cupboards or strewn on counters.   All  (or most) of the pertinent information about your dog is there, but it isn’t neatly arranged, and I bet there are things not on the list that you don’t realize are missing until you are winging your way to your destination, thousands of miles away.

I have the perfect solution to this problem!

A few weeks ago I was contacted by WiseUp! Workbooks and they asked me if I would be interested in featuring their Dog Care workbook on my Dakota’s Den.

I admit at first I was skeptical.

That lasted until the book arrived.

The workbook   has ALL of the “important information you should provide for the care of your dog in the event of your absence-planned or otherwise.”

It is your pet sitter’s  or kennel’s “Wise” guide. They are NOT kidding!

They have thought of information that many of us wouldn’t think of.  All you do is just fill in the blanks. Once you fill out the information it is all in one place…IN the workbook, it is NOT strewn on counters or taped haphazardly throughout your house!

Take a look at some of the chapters in this handy workbook:

  •  Information About My Dog-which has info such as,  date of birth, is the dog spayed or neutered, is the dog Microchipped? It even has an area to attach a photo of your dog which would be important if the unthinkable happened, your dog runs away or is separated from the kennel or sitter in some other way.
  •  Emergency Contact Information
  •   My Dog’s Personality-SUPER important as what works for one dog may not work for another!
  •  Daily Routine and Schedule
  • List and Location of My Dog’s Supplies- we all cover this verbally, but what happens when the person you were sharing the info with wasn’t paying complete attention and they later forget? Yes,. this DOES HAPPEN!
  • Health Care and Pet Insurance Information
  • Financial Arrangements-we don’t like to think about this but it is a necessity. Even I had never given this issue serious thought until I received this workbook.
  • Legal Trust for My Dog (sample Trust included)

And More…

The back of the work book has a handy RESOURCE section that includes websites for:

  • Dog Supplies
  • Dog Bedding
  • Dog Grooming Tools and Supplies
  • Pet Insurance
  • Dog Medications
  • Pet Legal Trusts

I wish I had this book when my husband and I vacationed last February. I know my friend who took care of Dakota and Cody in our absence would have greatly appreciated this workbook because the folks at WiseUp! have thought of EVERYTHING!

  1. I think my mom needs this book but first of all, she needs to organise herself first, seriously!

    • Hi Eva! This book is a must have for everyone! Mom was seriously impressed!

Barks and licks and love, Dakota

  2. Wow this book sounds like a must have for pet owners. I would love to win one because my dog, Peanut, does have a lot of little idiosycrises that other people would never guess so writing the information down in a book would be great. I don’t leave Peanut with others too often because he is my best buddy but if I should ever need to do so this book would be perfect. I can be contacted via email at Thanks for the opportunity to try to win this great book:)

    • Hi Sandy! It IS a must have and is so well made. Dakota has TONS of quirks that now I can write them down as I think of them, rather than having to be rushed thinking of them all at once for a pet sitter at the 11th hour!

you are most welcome and thank you for your kind words and for entering!

  3. This sounds like a “must have” for any pet lover. Whenever I have to leave my hairy son, Ziggy, with someone, I constantly worry what I forgot to tell them. Mostly he travels with me and I don’t leave him unless I have to, but when I have to, this workbook would be a way to make sure my caregiver has all the important information.

    • hi Gary! you are exactly right! My Mom and Dad rarely travel either but when they do (or if God forbid there is a weather disaster or something) this is an important book to have.

Mom may even use it to give to dad for when he takes care of me when she isn’t here!

Barks and licks and love, Dakota

  4. I’ve never heard of a book like this before, but it’s a great idea!!

My Mum needs this as she’s a scatter brain and always forgets some things!!

Heck, I think it would be good even for the kids to be able to read it – last night Mum was delayed and didn’t get home from a meeting until 7.30pm, do you think anyone fed me whilst she was out? I was super happy to see Mum!! 🙂

    Have a fun day,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

    • oh no Snoopy!!! Nobody fed you for that many hours!!!??? Oh noooo!!! You are right! You DO need this book!

Also, before I forget, Mom apologizes…she hasn’t gotten to the post office yet to mail your prize! Mom is AWFUL!!!

She WILL MAIL IT TO YOU!! She promises!!!!

      She is sorry!

Barks and licks and love, Dakota

  5. What a great idea…I write up a new list every time someone doggie sits for me. I would love to win.

    • Ann Marie, i’m with you! I do the same!

  6. This book is a terrific idea as we tend to forget so many little things anymore. Even when we have a pet sitter, I still worry if I didn’t mention something I should have about the hounds!

    • Yep Bassetmomma my Mom couldn’t agree more! With this they cover so many things that I think that we wouldn’t even think of! Barks and licks and love, Dakota and Mom

  7. Oh this would be perfect. My husband and I are planning on going to FL (fingers crossed lol) for our anniversary and this would be great for my dad. This way he’ll have everything at his fingertips when he cares for our kids! thanks Dakota!!

    • Hi Colleen! It sure would be! Crossing our paws for you!! Barks and licks and love, Dakota
