BOOK REVIEW:BARK PARK Written & Illustrated By Karen Gray Ruelle

After days and days of neglect, Mom finally sat down with me to read one of many books that were mailed to our house for Mom and I to review.

The most recent of the list is Bark Park!

Bark Park is the perfect bedtime story book for little pups (primarily human pups) ages 2 to 6.

There are brightly colored, lively illustrations that show all sorts of doggies romping and playing in the park.  Some of the illustrations show a Dalmatian, Scottie, Dachshund, Poodle, just to name a few.

There are mutts, old dogs, digging dogs, barking dogs, finding bone and ball dogs, all sorts of dogs!

There was one breed of dog  of the many that were featured that I didn’t see in Bark Park (maybe Mom and I missed it?) SHELTIES!

Where are the Shelties?

There is an illustration of what appears to be a Collie with (ready for this?) a CAT in its mouth!!

My brother Cody refused to pose with this illustration, BOL!

Needless to say, my brother Cody was NOT amused by THAT in the least!

Bark Park is fun!

As it says in the inside sleeve:

“Energetic rhymes are punctuated with cheerful illustrations in this bouncy, fast-paced frolic. It’s doggone delightful!”

Here is an example:

“Thin dog, grin dog, gulping, lapping.  Hairless, careless, digging, yapping. Pack dog, track dog, on the prowl. Curly, surly, woof and growl.”

If you are looking for a fun, fast reading, adorably written/illustrated children’s book about dogs, head on over to Bark Park!

  1. That looks like an adorable book. Will have to keep it in mind for a Christmas prezzie.

  2. Hi Mario! It IS! Just ignore the kitty in the doggie’s mouth since you are a kitty. BOL!

Barks and licks and love, Dakota

  3. Sounds like a fun story. Are you sure the kitty wasn’t a stuffie? I can’t imagine why we would be carrying a cat. They are a bit heavy.

It is a shame that they missed out on the Shelties. We do make for a beautiful book.

    • Ok Bailey let’s assume the kitty is a “stuffie” BOL. But…since the dog is shown as being outside, in the grass, I doubt it. BOL! I like your idea though!

BOL about cats being too heavy to carry! BOL!

Barks and licks and love, Dakota

  4. What a cute book!

    • Hi Old Kitty and Charlie! Yep it IS adorable! You are welcome! I told Cody and he said to thank you!

Mom said to tell you she is sorry she hasn’t been to the bloggies since last week! She is hoping to come by tonight. She has been sooo busy this weekend and then she had to call HP AGAIN tonight!! Ohhhh nooooooo!!!

Barks and licks and love, Dakota

  7. Hey Dakota,

You sure have been busy doing a lot of reading lately buddy!

I was shocked too, how can a book be complete without mention of a Sheltie!? Did they mention a ‘Bearded’ Collie? We normally get left out too 😦

Cody may not have been impressed about the Collie having the Cat in his mouth, but I chuckled! 🙂

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

    • Hi Snoop!! Actually I have been busy doing NOTHING! BOL!!

You know what? I don’t think there were any Bearded Collie’s in there either!!!

Hmmm maybe we should do our own book? Now THAT’S an idea! 🙂

Barks and licks and love, Dakota

      • Yes, yes, yes – great idea Dakota! We’ll show them! Then you could review the book and say it’s pawsome! Haha

        Your pal Snoopy 🙂

  8. Good review Dakota (tho your kind is not in the book)

I should make a book about turtle one of these days 😉

I am curious of how your mom got all those books to review. The publishers sent her or the authors sent her?

Ps. your reading photo reminds me of Kame and Kroten’s. I shared it my own blog once, maybe I should share it again in their blog 😉

    • Ohhh yes Novroz you SHOULD make a book about turtles and Mom and I would buy it for sure!

Actually when Mom did her very first book review on Cody’s blog the author contacted her on Twitter. Mom was very nervous because she had never reviewed a book before.

Then, once one publisher sees a review and likes it, they start mailing the books for free. In a few cases Mom became friends with a few of the authors on Cody’s blog and they asked her to review their book. Mom doesn’t get paid to do this, but she has gotten some very nice books!

Yes!! Please do share your photo again! xoxoxo Barks and licks and love, Dakota
