Actor John O’Hurley to Visit Top Business
Present $10,000 Donation to Local Pet Organization
Studies Show Bringing Pets to Work Can Reduce Stress, Increase Productivity
One of the MANY things that I loved when I was one of 15 lucky bloggers who attended the “Meet Purina Pet Blogger Summit” this past October was the “pet-friendly” philosophy of the company.
From cats lounging in meeting rooms, to a Bark Park for dogs, to seeing employees walking their dogs on campus, Purina is a company that “walks-the-walk” when talking about pet-friendly work places!
Fifteen years ago, Nestlé Purina PetCare recognized the benefits of allowing employees to bring their pets to work and started a “Pets at Work” program. For a company whose motto is “Your Pet, Our Passion,” it seems natural that every week hundreds of dogs and cats are brought to Purina’s St. Louis campus, and associates and their furry friends enjoy each other’s company every day.
Purina is now conducting a nationwide search to identify America’s most pet-friendly workplaces with the “Purina Pets At Work Contest.” Pet lovers can submit a story and photos about how their company is pet friendly, and Purina will help one winning business become even more pet friendly and donate $10,000 to a local pet welfare organization.
Award-winning actor John O’Hurley, well-known for his role as J. Peterman on the television show “Seinfield,” will help pick the winning company and will visit their office next spring to present the Grand Prize – a makeover to outfit the business with pet-friendly materials (valued at $5,000), and a $10,000 donation to a local pet shelter. O’Hurley also appeared in a video that aired during the National Dog Show Presented by Purina on NBC on Thanksgiving Day to discuss the benefits of bringing pets to work.
“I’ve visited the Purina offices and they clearly believe that spending time with pets can help make life better – for pets and pet owners,” said O’Hurley, who serves as co-host of the National Dog Show Presented by Purina. “As a lifelong dog owner and someone who shares Purina’s passion for pets, I’m thrilled to celebrate other companies that see the benefits of encouraging pets in the workplace.”
Purina “Pets At Work Contest”
Pet lovers can log on to www.purina.com/contest and tell how pets have made a positive impact on their workplace and why their workday is better – for them and their pet – because their office is pet friendly. Entrants must describe their employer’s “Pets at Work” program, answer both of the following questions, and provide 3-5 photos that show pets in their workplace:
- How do pets truly have a positive impact in your workplace?
- How is having a pet-friendly office mutually beneficial for employees and pets?
The nominations will be judged by three criteria:
- Does the nomination demonstrate how pets make life at work better for both the employees and the pets?
- Will the nomination inspire other businesses to integrate pets into their own office environments?
- Does the nomination include a description of the nominee’s “Pets at Work” program?
Nominations will be accepted until January 15, 2013. The winner will be announced in the spring of 2013.
Purina provides five simple steps for pet owners to help create a welcoming, pet-friendly program at their workplace. For more information, visit www.purina.com.

Hi my furry pals!
It seems as if it has been furever since I have barked at you! I haven’t been on the computer much because last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday Mom was at Nestle Purina for the “Meet Purina Pet Blogger Summit.” Mom had an outstanding time, but the trip to Purina is where some of Mom’s mischief began.
If you read my blog back in August, Mom had mentioned how she was supposed to attend the premier of the new Disney movie Frankenweenie…..(the operative words here are was supposed to attend.) and post her review TODAY. It was MOM who was the “weenie” on this one! Mom had a ton of blogs to pre-schedule before her trip to Purina and couldn’t make the premier, so because of Mom’s MAJOR MISCHIEF I’m not gonna let Mom blog about a movie that she didn’t see! We will tell you that the movie opened on October 5th so YOU can see it, and if you want to see the trailer that Mom had posted on my blog, you can click here.
Now, on to Part II of Mom’s Mischief! Mom went to Purina as one of their CAT BLOGGERS, (because of Cody!) not as a DOG BLOGGER, (they didn’t even know that I exist! What’s up with THAT??!!) So, where is she posting her first blog post about Purina? HERE. The woman has serious issues!
In an attempt to salvage Mom’s already shaky credibility, Mom wanted to share with you a super fun and interesting event that she attended while visiting Purina. The event was LUNCH if you know Mom, writing about food should come as no surprise, but I digress.
The lunch that Mom was raving about took place at the Purina Culinary Center, (Pet-inspired Chefs for Chef-inspired Pet Food)
Lunch was prepared by Chef Amanda Hassner who has one goal when she comes to work at the Purina Culinary Center every day and that is “to inspire people who create pet food so that they can enrich the lives of pets and the people who love them. She combines her passion for pets with her culinary expertise, and her creations in the Culinary Center have influenced many of Purina’s products.”
Mom and her blogging buddies were served a sumptuous sampling of dishes that were made for human consumption but were the inspiration of actual Purina products that are on the market today!
One of the dishes that Mom was served was Amuse Bouche. What are Amuse Bouche? Glad you asked! From Wikipedia: “Amuse-bouches are different from appetizers in that they are not ordered from a menu by patrons, but, when served, are done so for free and according to the chef’s selection alone.”
One of the Amuse Bouche that Mom tasted was the inspiration for Beneful® brand Baked Delights™ specifically the Savory Bacon Shortbread.
Mom received a sample bag of these to take home and you can see my reaction!
You guys should check these out, they are delicious! They made up for the mischief that Mom caused!
Barks and licks and love, Dakota
Disclosure: Mom’s trip was completely paid for by Purina. Mom was not required to blog about the trip but is going to do a few blog posts about it here and on Cat Chat. All opinions are mine AND Mom’s!
Hi everyone! I hope you had a great weekend!
My brother Cody and I have had discussions about being left when Mom goes to the BlogPaws 2012 conference. We didn’t like that kitties and doggies from all over the country (including my buddy Snoopy!!!) get to go to this spectacular conference and we can’t go!
What in the name of a bag o’ bones is wrong with THAT picture?
Cody and I are the ones that work til the wee (and I don’t mean peeing!) hours of the morning on our blogs! All Mom does is type the info that we give her, she makes that appear as if it’s a big deal cause she likes to moan and groan about all that she does, but Cody and I know differently!
We didn’t earn the right to go on this trip?
Without Cody and I Mom would have no blogs! If Mom had no blogs, she wouldn’t be going on a trip to BlogPaws which is only the best blogging conference on the Planet!
Somebody needs to be barked at… big time!
Cody and I decided to take matters into our own paws and take a look at what we did!
We had ourselves turned into PANCAKE PETS!!
Also known as Flat Pets!
Don’t we look realistic?
We’re pretty smart huh?
Now we can go to BlogPaws with Mom
and REALLY stir up some mischief!!!!
Ohhhh…we’re gonna have FUN!!!
Do YOU wanna stir up some mischief?
Ohhhh I know you wanna!
Visit Pancake Pets right here and you can go anywhere that your pawrents go!
Now if you will excuse me, I have to go and pack! I have a lot of toys, treats and Nutrish
to fit into my bag!
I have eaten Nutrish for all of my five years, and my Mom won’t let me go to BlogPaws? When there is Nutrish around, this Sheltie will NOT be denied!
(By the way, Nutrish is a Silver Sponsor at BlogPaws…click on Sponsors to see the entire list of TONS of BlogPaws Sponsors! )
Let the mischief begin!!
