Hi my furiends and Happy New Year! Here we are in January and Mom and I are still trying to wrap up some things we had pending in 2012. One of them is an adorable and sure-to-make-you-smile book by Robert Semrow, also known as, “The Pawtographer.” The book is called Life Is Pawfect and let me tell you pals, this book IS JUST THAT…”PAWFECT!!”
It’s charming, witty, uplifting, superbly photographed and just plain FUN!
Life Is Pawfect is the perfect book to help get your New Year off on the right paw. It is chock full of the most adorable photographs, all printed on high quality glossy photo paper. Accompanying each photograph is a quote and an uplifting or humorous saying that will be sure to brighten your day.
About ” The Pawtographer” from Robert Semrow who is “proud to be “The Pawtographer.”
I love animals and have a tremendous amount of fun being around them. Whether it’s a traditional pose, a candid moment or a creative themed experience, I want to capture those silly looks, funny outfits and special moments that animals allow us to have with them. I want to show the world that energy, unconditional love and attention that animals freely give us.
I have always found that animals are the most naturally loving beings. They will let us hug, play, dress up and goof around with them, if we just give them what they want and deserve most-love and attention…and the occasional treat.
Life Is Pawfect is the perfect coffee table or bedside table book. It would make the best birthday, get-well, thinking of you, gift or Valentine’s gift or ANYTIME gift for the animal lover in your life!
Robert was incredibly generous, when he sent me my review copy of Life Is Pawfect he included an extra book for one of my readers!
HOW TO ENTER: Give-away is open to EVERYONE! Just leave a comment telling me how YOUR “Life Is Pawfect” by Monday, January 7th at 5PM Eastern. In full disclosure: I was sent a copy of Life Is Pawfect to read and review along with an extra copy for one of my readers. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this post.
Hi everyone! It’s Dakota, and I am taking over the book review today! It’s only right, because today’s book: Dog Trots Globe, To Paris & Provence by Chula Wula D’ Augue (As Barked to Sheron Long) was “barked” by a Sheltie!
A few months ago Mom and I were on Twitter and we befriended a gorgeous Sheltie girl named @SheltieChula. As we interacted, Mom and I found out that Chula had barked a book! Mom and I love doing book reviews and when we learned this we had to have a copy to review. We are grateful that Chula got her paws on one and sent it to us, it is a book we will read over and over and cherish furever!
As many of you who live with Shelties know, it is rare to find a book about them (that isn’t a handbook), let alone one that was BARKED by a Sheltie!
This isn’t any ordinary Sheltie either! Well, not that ANY Sheltie is ordinary! From OIC-Books.com: Chula whose name means “pretty” in Spanish, is a 9-year-old Sheltie who traveled by car from Carmel Valley, California, to San Francisco where she boarded an Air France flight to Paris. Then she took the TGV, or Train a Grande Vitesse, from Paris to Saint-Remy-de-Provence and settled into her lovely village at the foot of the Alpilles Mountains. (From Dakota: For those who may be wondering, Chula traveled with her pawrents)
Chula got good at chasing French cats, hiding from wooly sheep and stealing ripe tomatoes.
Mom and I read this book together and Mom told me to tell you that it is exquisite, charming, gorgeous, delightful!
Mom and I have different reasons for loving this book. Mom says it is the perfect little travel guide where I can travel to Paris & Provence and live it vicariously through the eyes of a Sheltie.
Mom thinks this would be a perfect coffee table or bedside table book, both to read and to display. The photographs, contributed by Robert and Sheron Long, Erick Paraiso and Meredith Mullins are breathtakingly beautiful! The illustrations by Darius Detwiler, charming!
Mom says: this isn’t just a book, it is a visual feast, it is a work of art! She could envision herself sitting at a sidewalk cafe in Paris, relaxing, reading this book and sipping on a petit noir (an espresso), (how she can envision this I will never know, since Mom has never been to Paris but I digress, let your eyes delight in the following photos and you will see what I mean!)
Mom says: that the photos shown here don’t even begin to show the real beauty of the photos in the book. They are vibrant, they leap off of the high quality paper that they are printed on, they transport you to the beauty and romance of Paris. Dog Trots Globe is a perfect size too, it can be tucked into a purse with ease!
Enough of what Mom thinks! What I love about this book is that a SHELTIE barked it! I get to read, yes Shelties read! We ARE 6th in intelligence you know, about this amazing trip from first-paw Sheltie experience!
Through Chula’s travels I got to learn about things such as:
there is even a section of the book that tells your pawrents How To Take Your Pup To France should you ever be lucky enough to go!
Dog Trots Globe To Paris & Provence would make a delightfully charming gift that would be enjoyed and relished by Sheltie lovers, dog lovers, those who love Paris and those who appreciate superb photography. This must be added to your library!

Hi every doggy!!!
Boy oh boy I thought my Mom would NEVER get her act together and let me get on the computer! She is so stuffed from gorging on turkey and desserts from Thanksgiving that it took til NOW for her to get her act together!
Anyway, I have a super cool update for you!
Remember a few weeks ago when I featured Northern Lights Photography on my blog and I mentioned that I was going for a photo shoot? Well, I went and the photos are back!! Ohhhh my does my Mom ever love them!
I am going to show you a few of our faves. The color may have been altered on a few because Moms’ scanner on the printer isn’t working, so Mom took photos of the photos and she brightened them up a bit to make them look more like the originals. Trust me, the originals look a zillion times better in pawson!
Mom was going to use the above photo for our holiday card but decided against it because my kitty brother, Cody, wasn’t in the photo. Mom had thought about bringing him but she was nervous about how Cody would react. Mom thought there would be lots of doggies and kitties there that might make Cody nervous, or that he would be “spooked” being in a strange room with a camera so Mom let Cody enjoy the peace and quiet of home. Mom says she might ask Sheri if she could come to the house one day so that we could all have our photo taken!
Mom was so impressed with Sheri and her assistant. They couldn’t have been nicer!
At first, I was a bit leery because the photos were taken in the back room at a local Pet Supplies Plus store.
For the autumn leaves photo, they wanted to put me on a table but I didn’t want ANY part of that! That was too much like the V-E-T for me!
Sheri and her assistant had many tricks up their sleeves to help me get into the “mood.” They had toys that quacked, squeaked, and an assortment of treats. They were fun, gentle, understanding and kind. Soon I realized that this was FUN and I was all about the camera!
When I was done with my photo shoot Mom was sooo proud of me!! She said I was a complete gentleman and….she also said ( Easy this one is for you) that I am a:

From Dakota’s Den: We love hearing about creative ways that organizations find to help homeless animals. When we sent information about this venture we couldn’t help but “say cheese!”.How many times do parents complain that their teens spend too much time online? It seems that they post never-ending streams of photos to their friends on Facebook. Now, they can put those “itchy-fingers” and photos to good use by taking pictures to help animals in need. READ ON!
Famed Photographer and
to Find Their Inner Fur-tographers
DoSomething.org is putting the bite back in the fight for homeless shelter animals. With the help of campaign spokesperson and world-renowned photographer, Nigel Barker, DoSomething.org is launching their first nationwide animal adoption campaign. ‘Pics for Pets’ aims to increase adoption rates in shelters through teens, their cameras and Facebook, while saving some adorable animals’ lives in the process. AOL is also supporting the cause by spreading the word about the campaign to their enormous audience.
Every year, approximately 5-7 million companion animals enter shelters nationwide, and approximately 3-4 million are euthanized (50% of dogs and 70% of cats) simply because they are not adopted. One big reason why these animals aren’t adopted is due to sub-par pictures. All too often, the pictures used to market the potential pets are taken when the animal first arrives at the shelter, disheveled and frightened. DoSomething.org has set out make a change, arming teens with the skills to provide updated, irresistible pictures of animals to their social networks in hopes of finding new homes for these furry friends.
Running through November, ‘Pics for Pets’ is hoping to increase adoption rates across the country, utilizing the internet’s most powerful asset: sharable pictures of cute animals. Working closely with Facebook, DoSomething.org has created an easy-to-use Facebook app to help teens take and share awesome pics of animals in their community. Using the app, teens will have everything at their fingertips to locate a shelter, learn how to take beautiful pictures of animals and upload pictures to the gallery in hopes of spreading the word about shelter animals and where to adopt them. As a companion tool, DoSomething.org will also be releasing Pics for Pets iOS and Android apps for teens who wish to visit their local shelter and become animal photographers using their smartphones.
Teens who participate by sharing their pics will have the chance to win a $10,000 scholarship. DoSomething.org will also be giving up to $10,000 in pet toys, food and bedding to partner shelters depending on how many times their animals profiles are shared on Facebook.
“Utilizing something that teens are already experts in (sharing photos on Facebook), we are hoping to show people that their next potential pet can be the cute animal down the street at their local shelter” says Greg Thomas, Campaigns Manager at DoSomething.org. “By joining forces with Nigel Barker and AOL, we have the chance to make a significant increase in the amount of animal adoptions—and all it takes is a few photos.”
Nigel Barker cares about saving animals’ lives too, and is lending his expert photo tips to help these teens make a difference. He adds some bite to the bark of DoSomething.org’s animal adoption campaign by starring in a Public Service Announcement (PSA) helping teens to build the perfect photo shoot to get these shelter animals adopted.
“It’s been a really rewarding experience helping bring awareness to animal adoption, and it hasn’t hurt that I’m working with the most affectionate photo subjects I’ve had yet: animals,” said campaign spokesperson, Nigel Barker. “I’m hoping teens will take my lead and brush up on their photography skills while helping to save a few animals’ lives.”
“We know that pets are a topic that resonates with our audience, and we’re thrilled to support worthy initiatives like Pics for Pets,” said Blair Cobb, Senior Director of AOL’s Cause Marketing & Partnership initiatives. “By leveraging our platforms, including AOL.com, AOL Mail and Patch, we are able to create awareness around this campaign and truly help shelters across the country.”
We love teens. They are creative, active, wired…and frustrated that our world is so messed up. DoSomething.org harnesses that awesome energy and unleashes it on causes teens care about. Almost every week, we launch a new national campaign. The call to action is always something that has a real impact and doesn’t require money, an adult, or a car. With a goal of 5 million active members by 2015, DoSomething.org is one of the largest organizations in the US for teens and social change. Join us at www.DoSomething.org.
